The Smitty Hog meets Guitar Rig 5
This is an unpolished but very honest recording of the first time I played the guitar I call ‘The Hog’. The Hog is a co-op design of Eric Smid, Mick Brierley and myself, built by Eric Smid in The Netherlands under his brand Smitty Custom Guitars. Needless to say, I think it has turned out amazingly great; better than I’d hoped for, actually.
The Hog is a mixture of Honduras and Kayan mahogany with a rosewood board, Sperzels, custom wound Brierley pickups (A5 bridge, A2 neck), hard-tail Strat bridge, EVH low friction volume pot, 500k pots and a 3-way switch. The neck profile is similar to a Music Man Axis, as I’d asked for. The Brierley pickups are wound so that they give a mix of twang and bite with old-school PAF richness thrown in for substance. Perfect!
Native Instruments’ Guitar Rig 5 needs no introduction as it is an industry standard. I’m using it here to try and show it off as much as the guitar’s capabilities
